While all people are having lunch with their family and talking about the happy things happened this morning, the ground suddenly shook in SiChuan at 14:28:04 on May 12 2008, all the people put down their dishes afraid, they stood up and running like blind, they don't know what to do. Some old people walking down quicklyto the ground and some people hurriedly packing their valuable things and rush downstairs quickly. All the people were so panic and some of them were crying.Children were having lunch at school, their parents were knees on the ground and hoping somebody can save their kids.
In one school, teachers were rushing between students and make sure they were not hurt. The building started drooping dust, then bricks, it becomes bigger and bigger. There were still some students in side, but through the windows, i saw a teacher hide his students under a big podium and use his body to "close" the opening. When firemen moved the bid bricks from his body and found him, he was still benting his waist, using his hand to crutch the podium. But suddenly, he felled down, all the students under the podium were save, when the firemen trying to take them out under the podium, they all climbed to their teacher and cried.

  1. Good job, Mark. A realistic, emotional portrayal of the horrible Chinese earthquake. The way you start with a general description of people's reactions (some screaming, some frozen, some grabbing possessions), and then focus on a specific classroom setting, really crystallizes the moment for the reader. Effective use of detached narrative voice.
